My DP (Cliff Traiman) and I returned last night from a successful scouting trip in Arizona. We met with the drama clubs of some of the retirement communities around Surprise, AZ. The communities were very cordial in welcoming us. Cliff and I attended a play the Sun City Grande Drama Club put on called The Man Who Came to Dinner. We were very impressed with the talent involved. This group puts on 6 productions a year! I presented Valley of the Sun to The Club and the project was well received.
We pinned down some of the specific locations, met with the local SAG representative and a local coordinator / production manager. All in all, the trip boosted our confidence that this film is doable within our budget. I feel that we have the talent and locations available to us to make an amazing film. I am preparing to pass on my notes to the local production manager to finalize budget numbers. Once we have that budget completed, I intend to pass the budget by two additional indy feature producers for a reality check. If the budget passes the test, then we'll set a date!
